This week on the APP SHOW video podcast, we find out how Taiwan tackled both the COVID-19 pandemic and a toilet paper shortage (allegedly) and won. Their Digital Minister, Audrey Tang, joins us for this engaging discussion about how the island nation met the challenge head-on. On a more futurist note, do you think the evolution of music will include artists that are AIs? The latest Jukebox neural net project from OpenAI has us believing. All of this great stuff is packed into our May 10, 2020, edition of the APP SHOW video podcast.

Taiwan’s COVID-19 response has been co-ordinated, calculated, and, most importantly, successful. Governments around the world are applauding the way the island nation of 23 million handled the crisis. Their achievements are even more impressive, given their proximity to the epicentre of the outbreak. All this and they also managed to fix an alleged toilet paper shortage with a well-coordinated attack against misinformation. Our special guest, Taiwan’s Digital Minister, Audrey Tang, shares everything they did, including the technology and digital tools they used, to help inspire others to achieve the best possible outcomes during this interesting time.
Frank Sinatra and Elvis Presley might be producing new music in the future. The OpenAI project has created a new artificial intelligence that is more musically inclined. Jukebox is a neural network that can make music and generate rudimentary singing. The stylings from the fledgling AI have resembled anything from Alan Jackson to Katy Perry. It even gives a good college try at Elvis Presley and Frank Sinatra. At least one host was convinced that one of the samples might not be Katy Perry’s best work, because it wasn’t.
And to end things off, we may have been streaming—a lot. We’ve got some new shows that we’ve streaming on Netflix, Disney+, and other streaming platforms, and we think they might be worth your attention. Check out our latest picks.
Socially distanced, but connected by tech, Mike Agerbo, John Biehler, and Graham Williams brings you this week’s episode. Special thanks to the Digital Minister of Taiwan, Audrey Tang, for being a part of this week’s show.
