Last year, Samsung released a “Fan Edition” of their Galaxy S20 series smartphone known as S20 FE. It was a slightly paired-down version of the Galaxy S20 but still had all of the essential features of the series that users cared about. In a nutshell, it was a great value at a reasonable price. At CES 2022, Samsung does it again for their new Galaxy S21 FE 5G.
Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas was the backdrop for Samsung’s official unveiling of the Galaxy S21 FE 5G at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show. The venue allowed media to play around with the great cameras and the excellent 8MP 30X Space Zoom. Accompanying it is a 12MP wide-angle, a 12MP ultra wide-angle and an impressive 32MP selfie camera. The colours are contrasty and punchy like you would expect in any Galaxy S21 series smartphone. The video performance is also pretty good. Please have a look at this quick video we snapped of Mike showing it off on TikTok in his favourite lavender colour.
Speaking of colour, one of the nice things about the “Fan Edition” is that it comes in a range of colours rather than just one or two. You’ll see it in lavender, as mentioned, plus olive, graphite, and white. While there aren’t many changes to the overall look, the grippy aluminum surface keeps the Galaxy S21 FE firmly in hand. And like the rest of the S21 line, you’ll get great battery life with the 4500 mAh pack inside even if you want to run on 5G all day long, which is one of its other features. Did we mention the beautiful AMOLED 6.4-inch screen with 120 Hz refresh, wrapped in Corning Gorilla Glass Victus?
Despite it supposedly being paired down, you still get a top-end Qualcomm 888 processor, 256GB of memory and 8GBs of RAM. Following in its predecessor’s footsteps, the new Fan Edition is available for $949 CAD ($699 USD).
