CES 2020 seems like an eternity ago. But at that show, L’Oréal showed off their Perso 3-in-1 smart makeup customizer. At CES 2022, a company called NINU is focused not on the way you look but on how you smell.
NINU has created a device that can generate over 100 unique scents, appealing to both men and women. Because the device is refillable with high-quality fragrances, it attacks a sizeable environmental issue in the beauty industry, where over 12 billion tons of plastic waste is generated. In contrast, the NINU uses three recyclable cylinders containing complementary bases to create the centenary of scent variations. A luxurious Italian-designed casing is available in a range of colours.
The NINU device connects via Bluetooth to your Android or iOS smartphone. Using an app, the user can choose from a set of pre-defined scents created by master perfumers, or you can enlist the help of the AI to select a fragrance based on time of day, mood, and weather. There is even a manual mode that you can use to match smells to your outfit. The app will continue to track your scent tendencies and should be able to suggest additional scents that you might like.
Once your custom perfume is ready, precision motors blend the scents to generate the fragrance. You then press a button to aerosolize it onto your body.
NINU will be demonstrating their device throughout CES 2022. It is currently available for pre-order for around $229 CAD via a Kickstarter campaign.
