What started back on June 17th as a boycott of Facebook by advertisers is spilling over to the average user. There is an increasing number of users moving away from Facebook Messenger and over to Signal, and here’s why.
The desire to pull away from Facebook is becoming quite a phenomenon. Companies like Microsoft and a host of others have pulled their campaigns until at least the beginning of August. This stems from the ‘Stop Hate for Profit’ campaign started by a large collection of civil rights organizations. It seems as if the average user has taken this opportunity to search around for a different option.
Signal is a messenger app with an unparalleled focus on security and encryption. It uses state-of-the-art end-to-end encryption which is powered by source signal protocol. The app can’t read any of your messages or listen to any of your calls. Signal claims to use maximum privacy for every message, every call, every time.
Signal offers a wide variety of communication options. You can share a normal text, voice memo, photo, GIF, or even video. Video calls are also there for those that would rather communicate face to face. Signal has also added group messaging to its platform, offerin all the convenience you are used to in Facebook Messenger without the concern over who is watching.
You won’t find any ads, affiliate marketing companies, or tracking of any kind on Signal’s platform. This allows you to use the application freely without worry of advertisements the next day based on your private conversation today. Signal is an independent non-profit that is not tied to any tech company. The platform also claims it will never be acquired by anyone based on its development being supported by grants and donations.
I have to say that I’m impressed. Privacy has been a hot topic when it comes to social media and messaging for quite some time. With the heat that Facebook is taking right now, it seems like this may be a great alternative messaging platform that is also jam-packed with security for your peace of mind. You can download Signal here for iOS
