Mike shares his thoughts on the latest iteration of the folding smartphone from Samsung, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G.
When the first incarnation of the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip arrived, it quickly asserted itself as the folding smartphone to beat. Despite the hype of the competing Moto RAZR, the Galaxy Z Flip was better built, powered, and, most importantly, almost practical. It had none of the shortcomings of the Moto RAZR in daily use, and most importantly, it was a conversation piece. Which is why Samsung has unveiled the sequel just a few short months later. Introducing the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G.
On the surface, the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G doesn’t appear much different than the original. It’s got the same dimensions, screen, and camera. It even has the same RAM, Storage and battery size. And while Samsung may have tweaked a few things behind the scenes, those changes were not immediately apparent. The significant difference though is the addition of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 Plus chipset, which supports 5G. And yes, it might be just a tick or two faster.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 5G will come in at a few dollars more than its 4G LTE predecessor. As far as we can see, it’s still the flip phone to have in 2020 with a price tag of $2019 CAD. Well played, Samsung.
