As a group of content creators, videographers and photographers, we’re always dealing with memory cards from different cameras, devices, and drives. As a result, we inevitably end up with an extremely cluttered workspace full of readers, adapters, and cables. At CES 2021, Kingston answered our call for help by introducing something they call the Workflow Station.
The Kingston Workflow Station is a device that is a long time coming in this digital content creation era. It connects to your PC or Mac, desktop or workstation, with a single USB-C or USB-A connection, and requires a bit of power from the mains with an included power adapter. If you’re travelling, you’ll love the included 4 country plug adapters in the box.
The Workflow Station has four docks that house a single USB-C connector in each. It uses compatible Workflow series readers to allow you to customize your setup. While it helps you organize all your media readers all in one place, the readers themselves can be removed to travel with you in the field. It can even handle devices, like USB drives or portable SSDs, whether it comes with a USB-C or a USB-A connector thanks to an included mini-USB hub.
Kingston is launching the Workflow Station with optional SD and microSD card readers presently. Both are dual slots so that you can offload more than one memory card at a time. Many professional cameras now have dual slots, and it’s great that Kingston kept up with this development. The same goes for the microSD reader so that you can download footage from your drone and your GoPro at the same time. We have not heard whether Kingston is currently working on other readers presently, but knowing their team, they are already listening to the community carefully.
While the Kingston Workflow Station has built-in backwards compatibility with a USB-A connection, you’ll get the best performance with the USB-C and a USB 3.2 connection to your laptop or desktop. And speaking of compatibility, you’ll find Windows 8 through 10 and Mac 10.10 and above supported.
The Kingston Workflow Station will retail for $132.50 USD with a USB-C mini-hub. The optional Workflow dual SD card reader will set you back $36.40 USD, and the Workflow dual MicroSD card reader will also be $36.40 USD.
