Cadillac has just announced its very first electric vehicle and it’s called the Lyriq. The company states that this upcoming 2023 luxury vehicle is just the beginning for upcoming Cadillac electric vehicles.
Don’t worry, though. They’ll still make Escalades. But as for the research and development side of things, Cadillac will be focusing on improving its luxury vehicles on an all new electric frontier.
The Lyriq features a 12-module, 100 kilowatt-hour battery pack – this is the Ultium EV battery pack that GM announced last year. This technology optimizes battery energy storage and the layout is crisp and clear too. Most importantly, it is expected to deliver 340 horsepower and more than 480km of range on a full charge.
The Lyriq also offers fast charging at 190 kW. That is expected to get you 122km of range in only 10 minutes. So, that’s great for fast charging stations, but when you’re at home, you can also get a 19kW residential charging module. That will get you 84km of range when you leave it to charge at home.
Lyriq also has One-Pedal-Driving capabilities. A lot of electric vehicles have this feature, which allows you to program your car to slow down or come to a complete stop without having to press the brake. You just let off the gas and your car will automatically slow down. I can see this being kind of handy for driving in a neighbourhood, but it sounds kind of dangerous if you’re driving on the highway. Maybe I need to try it out. Feel free to send me a test model, Cadillac.
A few other features on the Lyriq? An Active Noise Cancellation system with an AKG 19-speaker audio system and speakers in the headrest too. Wow, that’s fancy. It also has a pretty impressive looking 33-inch LED diagonal display capable of displaying over one billion colours. I wonder how long it took to test that
You can reserve the 2023 Cadillac Lyriq for $69,898 beginning this coming September and it will be available in the first half of 2022.
