Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, the popular fighting game by developer nWay in partnership with Hasbro, Inc. and global content leader Lionsgate is coming to PC on September 24, 2019. nWay is the game studio behind Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid, Power Rangers: Legacy Wars and ChronoBlade. The original Power Rangers launched in a live action children’s television series in August 1993 and has spawned multiple series, action figures, movies and games over the next 25 years. This means the game has multiple generations of fans, a lot of culture and backstory to pull from. The game was previously released on Xbox One and Nintendo Switch earlier in the year but the PC version hopes to help bump the game back into the spotlight.
You can play as up to 15 characters. Some of the characters you can play include Jason Lee Scott, Tommy Oliver, Gia Moran, Ranger Slayer, Magna Defender, Kat Manx, Mastodon Sentry, Goldar and more. There are seven arena areas including Zordon’s Training Room, Harwood County Warzone, Mystic Forest, Lord Drakkon’s Throne Room, Command Center, Corinth, Planet Earth: Cenozoic Era.
There are multiple gameplay modes including Rank mode and casual mode. Ranked lets you compete for League points. There are also 120 different collectible banners for you to earn. If online competing isn’t your thing there is also several offline modes including a complete story mode, Verus mode that lets you fight the computer or a person sitting next to you and an arcade mode, that lets you fight increasing difficult battles to end up taking on the final boss. It’s also fully crossplay compatible between PC, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch.
Story mode has a unique storyline that is written by Kyle Higgings who has done several other Power Ranger tiles. The game’s story and combat voiceovers are performed by original Power Rangers cast members, including Jason David Frank (Tommy Oliver), Austin St. John (Jason Lee Scott), David J. Fielding (Zordon), Kerrigan Mahan (Goldar) and Meghan “Strawburry17” Camarena (Kimberly).
Power Rangers Battle for the Grid is a 3-on-3 fighter game where you have a four-button combat system consisting of light, medium, heavy, and special attacks, much like Dragon Ball FighterZ. On PC you play with the A,S,D,F and up, down, left and right keys. You also have the option to use a controller plugged into PC.
The game is fun to play and since the controls are not overly complicated someone new to the franchise could easily pick it up and start playing. There is definitely the ability to dive into more advanced gameplay techniques though which include real-time assist takeover, dynamic defense through push blocking and aerial guard, customizable juggle combos, and a unique Megazord comeback mode.
There will be new DLC content released for the series on the same day as the PC launch. You can get Power Rangers: Battle for the Grid for PC from the steam store for $22.79
