Technology plays an important role in the design and production of many of our favourite products, but how did Vancouver brand Vessi use it to design and launch its iconic lightweight, waterproof knit sneakers? In this week’s episode of GetConnected AT WORK our hosts, Mike Agerbo and Chris Pereira, speak with Andy Wang, Co-Founder of Vessi. Andy shares the story of his remarkable journey to developing Vessi’s proprietary waterproof knit sneaker design, the first of its kind. Thanks to this unique design, the company can produce its sneakers much more efficiently and sustainably than by using traditional production methods.
We also discuss the important role online communities played in the launch of Vessi products. As a fast-growing direct-to-consumer brand, Vessi continues to lean on online tools and communities to market and sell its products.
About Andy Wang
Andy Wang is a co-founder at Vessi Footwear, the growing brand behind the first waterproof knit sneakers. Driven by a desire to create products that are versatile and comfortable, he created the brand’s proprietary waterproof design, an innovation that has propelled Vessi to one of the fastest-growing footwear companies in the world. He is passionate about the movement that Vessi has created and the causes that the brand and its community are able to support, including donating over 2,000 pairs of the brand’s iconic sneakers and over 400,000 masks to frontline healthcare workers across Canada and the U.S.!
Andy learned about footwear design and the industry while living and working in factories across Asia for over six years. He believes that footwear, including its methods of production, can be more sustainable by defying the conventional way of thinking.
At the office, Andy’s favourite thing to do is play office Dad, making sure that everyone has eaten.
