In a world where everything seems to be photo’d, video’d and recorded in general, it’s tough to have any type of Privacy. Playground, a London AI startup is launching the app “Anonymous Camera” today on the IOS App Store.
The app was created with the help of investigative journalists to capture anonymous footage. Capturing video has been crucial lately with regards to law enforcement. it’s now more than ever important that there is a way to protect one’s privacy. The app uses AI and strips metadata away from people’s faces and distorts audio. Although this app isn’t perfect, it offers the most comprehensive and easy-to-use features out there.
Machine Learning is used to identify people in the image or video. It then blurs, pixelates or will block out all together people’s faces and even their entire bodies. These methods can be reversed using advance software and there is still a way to identify people by other means such as tattoos, birth marks and clothing, so it’s not perfect.
The app will also distort voices in videos and will strip away any metadata that is embedded in the video files by your smart device. Information includes the location and time a video or image was captured. This app is special because of its ability to do this in real time using advancements in AI. The video or photo only exists for a brief moment before the app goes to work.
As the world is being captured by video and photos there is a strong need to have anonymity. Anonymous Camera has developed technology that will almost instantly blur faces, bodies and wipe metadata.
