Marantz has just launched the NR1711 AV Receiver. This is a slimline AVR (Audio/Video Receiver) that stands at about half the height of a normal receiver and packs a ton of features. This receiver gets all the functionality of its bigger siblings in a smaller package.
Slimline receivers were always kind of a second class citizen in the audio world. With not enough room to put amplifiers, they were cosmetically appealing but you need to be willing to sacrifice audio quality. Marantz has decided they want the best of both worlds. The NR1711 is capable of 8k/60HZ or gaming at 4K/120HZ which is more than fantastic. The 8K will give this future proof over the next 5 years or so and with 4K gaming on the rise the timing is great.
It moves a solid 50W per channel @2 channels driven. This receiver is not meant for your massive home theatre but will work brilliantly in a living room or smaller space. Decoding 7.2 will allow you a full bookshelf surround setup. Should you wish to incorporate height into the room then it fully supports Dolby Atmos as well as DTS:X. The NR1711 also supports eARC for decoding these audio formats directly from your TV.
If you have a newer TV or projector then have no fear as this little receiver will run all formats of HDR. From Dolby Vision, HDR10, HDR10+, HLG and Dynamic HDR. There is no need to compromise on quality just because you don’t need massive power.
