Teracube was one of the first companies to produce a sustainable smartphone. Their mission is to keep fewer smartphones out of landfills. In fact, they are happy if you buy fewer smartphones, even if it’s the ones they offer. Their latest version, the Teracube 2e, is another Android-powered smartphone that continues this legacy.
Sure, it won’t win any spec wars with its MediaTek Octacore processor, but the Teracube 2e is plenty fast for your social media apps and even some games. There’s 4GBs of RAM onboard along with 64GBs of storage. You can even plug in more storage with MicroSD cards sold separately. A dual rear camera with a 13 Megapixel main and 8 Megapixel wide-angle complement an 8 Megapixel front camera.
The 6.1-inch IPS display isn’t top of the line. But with a 720 x 1560 HD+ resolution, 280 PPI and 450 nits of brightness, it’s viewable in daylight and well-matched to the processor onboard. You’ll connect to your service provider LTE and VolLTE, which are fast and reliable, and there’s even a dual SIM tray for when we start to travel again. Bluetooth 5.0, NFC, WiFi are all standard, and they’ve even included a headphone jack.
With a replaceable battery, guaranteed 3 years of software updates and a 4-year warranty, the Teracube 2e is probably enough for most consumers. And at $199 USD, with even better offers during their INDIEGOGO campaign, it certainly doesn’t hurt to pick one up as a backup phone for yourself or for a family member.
What about sustainability? Well, the shell is biodegradable, the phone is mostly user-serviceable, and Teracube is hoping that they’ve offered enough value so you won’t need to buy a new phone every year.
