Like most of us that grew up in the ’80s, I have been patiently waiting for Bill and Ted Face the Music. COVID-19 however had different plans for the entertainment world. There has been a stalemate of movies not released since the world shut down. Bill and Ted Face the Music now gets the release we all wanted.
There has been a new trailer launched for the upcoming third installment. It appears as if it is going to be released on September 1st. The new trailer gives us some super funny insights as to what we can expect, and it doesn’t disappoint. Bill and Ted are off to literally save humanity by bringing to gather people from all walks of life together for one great song.
But let’s be honest, this won’t rival a Marvel movie. There is no real naive goal fo this movie doing a billion dollars or breaking box office records. The key is to maximize the potential when it launches. The movie will be released simultaneously in theatres and on digital. If the theatres are open where you are then you can go see it there. If they are not open or you don’t feel comfortable going then you can pay a premium to digitally rent it.
This is the way movies should have gone for all of 2020. I realize that there is a big wheel of profit going when it comes to releases however there is no reason that studios and theatres can’t double-dip. I wrote about this a while ago when it comes to Cineplex and their worries. Releasing movies digitally allows the studios and the theatres (if released on the correct apps) to both recover and make a profit. Even if the theatres are not open yet then there is always the ability to re-release the movies later on when people can enjoy them.
If there is a movie coming out you wouldn’t mind seeing but are not over the moon excited about then the premium digital rental is perfect. If you loved the movie after then you are much more likely to go see it again. Some movies are a bit of a let down so if it didn’t tickle your fancy then that is ok as the studio and theatre have still recovered some revenue. I wish more movies would release this way and give us some new releases to get excited about.
