Kid Safe Content- Thanks Google!

Kid Safe Content- Thanks Google!

If you’re a parent, you’ve surely spent time either curating what your child does and doesn’t see online. If you haven’t, it’s something that will have to be addressed at some point, and it’s not easy to do.

Google has eased some worry with their announcement of YouTube Kids, an app for iOS and Android that they built from the ground up. It features hand-picked channels that are kid friendly- expect Thomas the Tank Engine, Sesame Street and many other popular channels here.

The app is broken down into 4 sections: Shows, Music, Learning and Explore and there is a search function but it’s limited to pre-approved content. Best of all, comments are turned off! If your kid can’t spell yet, they can try the voice search out as well. We also like that there’s a timer on the app to limit how long your child can watch.

One caveat is that the app is USA only right now but it should be in Canada soon. We’re hoping to see it on Apple TV and Roku as well, and we’d love Chromecast compatibility too.

Tell us what you think of the app, or let us know what you’d like to see a kids’ version of. We’ve longed for a kid-friendly web browser for a long time and hope that happens one day as well.
