Are You Securely Deleting Your Data?

GC-are-you-deleting-your-data-securely

The clock’s ticking: it’s only a few months before Windows XP support ends. In April of 2014 Windows XP’s long run as a supported operating system is coming to a close. That means no more security updates and no more assistance from Microsoft–unless you want to pay for the privilege.

It’s great to see progress move forwards, but what’s going to happen if you stand still? In a word: vulnerability. The security of the systems your business uses–big or small–has grown in importance by an order of magnitude in the time since Windows XP launched. Connected services, the cloud, and other collaborative features mean that a machine without security support puts ALL of your hardware and data at risk. Hackers have a great opportunity coming up this April; as new “zero day” exploits are discovered those exploits won’t be patched for Windows XP, making any system running the old software vulnerable to attack. You can defend your infrastructure by taking the simple step of migrating from Windows XP to a modern operating system.

It’s easy to say, but it can be hard to do that on your own. That’s why a number of big names in tech are providing services to help business migrate from XP. Dell Canada is one such provider, working with businesses to create end-to-end solutions, with a comprehensive look at what you currently have, what’s going to work, and how to best deploy your changes.

For many businesses the idea of migration is a big one: resource issues are the first hurdle! There are three big X’s at the start of most migration efforts: no time, no people, and no plan. Dell is able to step in at a point like this to help out. End-to-end services start with a consultation, determining what you have in the way of hardware, software, and applications. Compatibility can be a concern when migrating, but Dell’s consultants can determine if your existing app packages will work with modern Windows systems, and if not they’ll work with you to migrate your software to more compatible options. The project management and logistics are all taken care of on the Dell side, making a migration possible with a minimum of difficulty.

After capturing the scope of what needs to be done, Dell consultants can provide you with a plan and an overview; this in turn will come with a timetable, showing you how the migration will be rolled out. With compatibility addressed, Dell with test each new solution, then package up the apps that you need, creating an optimized deployment package that reduces the amount of time needed to roll out a migration, saving up to hundreds of dollars per asset.

While migration may seem intimidating, with someone like Dell available the process becomes much less complex, getting you from XP to the next step in your business in a few easy steps.
