Vancouver 2010 Olympic iPhone Apps: Your Guide to the Games

For tourists and locals, alike, there are a few iPhone Apps recently released which will help you stay on top of the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Festivities.

CTV Olympics (CTV issued content)
The app launches with a count down to the games…2 days to the games! It offers quick navigation to the latest news (CTV and Canadian Press Content) and a pretty sweet photo section. Great information source, but not the best guide for getting around

Other highlights include:

Venue descriptions. I was really impressed by these. They provide an in-depth description of the buildings and interesting facts about them. I learned a little about my own city by reading them.

Athlete profiles: These read like a resume. It would have been more interesting to see personal bios, but alas the athletes are probably focused more on competing than their “PR” image :p
and of course: the Game Schedule is laid out is an easy-to-understand format.

2010 Guide (by XOMO) – A MUST DOWNLOAD!
This is an official mobile spectator guide sponsored by Bell. With this app, it’s easy for spectators to find the events by venue or vice versa. There are several mapping features including floor plans and directions.

The app includes listings of cultural events, in addition to the games including theatre performances, musicals, film, celebration sites, and so much more.

You can even favorite the sessions you’re most interested in to create your own custom agenda! This app draws you into its information seamlessly. Xomo has done to event apps what Facebook did to online communities 😉
